Hallux Abductovalgus (HAV), commonly referred to as bunions, are enlargement and misalignment of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the 1st toe.

Bunions can be caused by many factors including family history, muscle imbalances, poor foot mechanics and poor fitting footwear.
As the bunion progresses the range and quality of motion within the joint can be significantly reduced due to arthritic change. This can become very painful when walking, making it increasingly difficult to find appropriate fitting footwear.
