One of the treatment options that may be utilised by the team at East Gosford Podiatry to resolve your foot pain and correct biomechanical abnormalities is foot orthotics or orthoses.

Also referred to as ‘arch supports’, these are an innersole worn in your shoes, to alter the position, function or forces in your foot and lower limb.

While there are literally hundreds of different innersoles and orthotics available, they can usually be classified into one of two groups:

Off the shelf devices – are a prefabricated product, available in several different sizes and thicknesses.
Custom made devices – are manufactured from a model of your foot, to a personal prescription created by your Podiatrist. This allows for a more specific treatment plan as the Podiatrist can accurately address the problem identified within your foot’s posture and function

Custom made Orthoses

The shape and contour of your foot is captured through a traditional plaster cast or a digit scan. We still believe a plaster cast is the most consistent, accurate and repeatable way to capture your foot profile in the required position, however we are constantly monitoring the changes in technology and digital scanning options. We are always open to finding newer, better assessment and treatment opportunities.

Most of the custom foot orthoses prescribed by East Gosford Podiatry, are manufactured by an Australian company in Sydney. Having worked along-side this local business for 15 years, we can ensure a reliable and consistent product.

East Gosford Podiatry has its own Orthotic Laboratory in its East Gosford rooms. This is used to recover, re-enforce or adjust orthoses if required to perfectly suit your foot needs. This also allows us to make any on the spot modifications to your orthoses should you need any alterations in the future.
